There were scenes of happiness and jubilation at St John Plessington Catholic College this morning [Thursday, 20 August], as Year 11 students opened their results envelopes.

From 9am, students, accompanied by family members, returned to the Bebington school eager to discover the outcome of the hard work, dedication and perseverance they displayed throughout the GCSE exam season.

The achievements of the Year 11 cohort at St John Plessington Catholic College, a proud member of Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust, reflect not only the dedication and resilience of its students, but also the unwavering support of teachers, support staff and the wider school community.

This year’s results demonstrate significant improvement in attainment across the board and students achieving grades 5 and above have improved across all subjects. One of many St John Plessington students celebrating an impressive set of results today is Angelina Joy, who achieved a grade 9 in science, three grade 8s in English literature, maths and RE, three grade 7s in English language, geography and Spanish, and a 6 in textiles. Thank you to all my teachers for making lessons genuinely enjoyable, inspiring me to learn, work hard and achieve the very best I can.”

With today marking the end of their compulsory school years, St John Plessington’s Year 11 students are now progressing onto a range of exciting next steps, with many returning to the school in September having enrolled at its sixth form to complete A-levels and BTEC qualifications.

This includes Aileen Anil who will study A-level biology, chemistry and psychology. Aileen secured three grade 8s in art, chemistry and physics, three grade 7s  in maths, geography and RE, and three grade 6s in English language, English literature, and biology.

Reflecting on her feelings, Aileen referred to a quote from Philippians 4:6-7, which she lives by: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Also returning to sixth form at St John Plessington is Riley Mohammed, who received two grade 8s in science and history, four grade 7s in English language, maths, RE and Spanish, and two grade 6s in English literature and geography. He has enrolled at the sixth form to study biology, chemistry, and maths.

Headteacher of St John Plessington Catholic College, Mr Peadar McLoughlin, said: “It has been delightful to welcome our students back to school today to celebrate their GCSE and BTEC results. It has been wonderful to see them share this special milestone with their friends, families and our staff, all of whom have played such an important part in supporting their academic and personal growth.

“Our Year 11 students’ achievements are testament to the determination they have shown throughout their time at St John Plessington, a value we hold dear as a school community which will serve them well as they take their next steps.

“I look forward to seeing many of our Year 11 students return to school in September as they embark on their A-level studies, as well as new students who have enrolled this morning. Enrolment is still open for Year 11s looking to join sixth form at St John Plessington, who can email schooloffice@stjohnplessington.com to discuss a place.”
