Laurie Smith is the Director of Music for HFCMAT. She has been teaching music for 20 years and has a wealth of experience both leading and developing music in both secondary and primary sectors.
Her belief that all children are entitled to an exciting, engaging and creative music education has been a constant thread throughout her career and Laurie has always been dedicated to providing young people with enriching musical experiences out of the classroom.

This session will develop your practical musical skills so you feel confident delivering high quality practical lessons to your classes. There will be a rhythmic and notated element to this session and participants will take part in a series of masterclasses on some common primary instrumentation. This session is open to anyone who teaches music in primary and is specifically designed to develop your musical skills and confidence.

A session aimed at building your practical knowledge of world music. Sessions on how to teach samba, West African drumming and song and Gamelan to students in KS3 to develop a rich curriculum that develops students understanding of music from different music traditions, heritage and cultures.
