This CPD series is lead by the Literacy Company and so is only accessible to schools within the HFCMAT family.

This CPD series will cover key aspects of reading, writing and oracy, focusing on the latest research and pedagogical strategies to enhance English leadership. Subject leaders will have the opportunity to review current practices, collaborate with colleagues on transition support, and plan their next steps. The sessions are designed to develop your skills as an English subject leader and support you in effectively leading the English curriculum.

Date & Time: 16th October – 13:30 – 15:30  

Location: Maritime Hub, Birkenhead 

The first session will delve into current research and innovative pedagogies, providing subject leaders with insights into leading English effectively. Participants will review their current practices, share successful strategies and collaborate on plans for improving transition between key stages.

Date & Time: 29th January 2025 – 13:30 – 15:30 

Location: St Bernard’s 

In this session, subject leaders will evaluate the impact of their initiatives from the previous term. The session will also include time for sharing best practices, discussing challenges, and focusing on transition and continuity between primary and secondary phases.

Date & Time: 23rd April 2025 – 13:30 – 15:30  

Location: Maritime Hub, Birkenhead 

The final session of the year will focus on refining leadership skills, supporting transition and developing action plans for the upcoming academic year. There will also be opportunities to address bespoke requests from previous sessions, with a focus on fieldwork and moderation.

Allison taught in schools for 17 years across the primary age range with a particular focus in KS2 and year 6. Her in-school leadership involved senior leadership and leading an English team in a large primary school. As an English consultant, Allison has several years’ experience of supporting schools with planning, moderation, subject leadership and curriculum planning. Her passion is developing effective curriculums, creating engaging resources for teaching English and introducing pupils to a range of inspirational books. Allison is part of the KS2 local authority moderation team and has gained both experience and expertise which she uses to support schools. Allison has a natural thirst for knowledge and a love of the world. She enjoys travelling and taking trips with her family; she can often be found in independent bookshops or museum shops looking for the next great book to use (or maps and postcards!).
