On Thursday, 5th December, the main hall at St John Plessington was abuzz with activity as they hosted their annual Careers Fair. This eagerly anticipated event has become a cornerstone of the school’s commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate their future pathways.

This year, the Careers Fair welcomed an impressive array of thirty exhibitors, all eager to provide guidance, inspiration and information to our students. We were proud to see both familiar faces and new additions among our exhibitors. Long-standing partners such as Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), the University of Chester, and Edge Hill University were in attendance once again, offering invaluable insights into higher education opportunities. Joining them were representatives from prestigious universities further afield, including the University of Glasgow, the University of Manchester, the University of Leeds and Durham University.

Further Education (FE) providers also played a key role in this year’s event. Wirral Met College, Liverpool Life Sciences, and Liverpool Business College shared detailed information about their courses, qualifications, and the support they offer to students seeking an alternative to university.

For those considering more practical or vocational routes, the Careers Fair provided a wealth of information about apprenticeships and industry opportunities. Airbus, Markhams Solicitors, the British Army and local police representatives were on hand to showcase the exciting career prospects available through apprenticeships and professional training. Their guidance proved invaluable for students keen to explore direct routes into the workplace while gaining hands-on experience and qualifications.

Empowering Informed Choices

The Careers Fair is a vital component of our broader careers education programme. At St John Plessington, we understand the importance of preparing students for life beyond school and we are deeply committed to ensuring they have access to comprehensive, up-to-date information about the options available to them.

Our students engaged enthusiastically with the exhibitors, asking insightful questions and gaining clarity about their future choices. Whether discussing university degrees, vocational training, or career pathways in industries like law, engineering, and public service, the fair created an environment where curiosity was encouraged, and aspirations were nurtured.

For younger students, the event provided an excellent opportunity to start thinking about their future ambitions and to explore the variety of options available to them. Older students, meanwhile, were able to have in-depth conversations about application processes, course requirements, and career progression, helping them to make more informed decisions about their next steps.

Looking Ahead

The success of this year’s Careers Fair is a testament to the strong relationships St John Plessington has built with both local and national organisations. These partnerships allow us to deliver a comprehensive careers programme that reflects the diversity of opportunities available in today’s world.

As we look ahead to the future, we remain dedicated to supporting our students in every stage of their journey. By providing events such as the Careers Fair, we aim to inspire confidence and ambition, ensuring that every student leaves St John Plessington equipped to make well-informed, thoughtful decisions about their future.

A huge thank you to all exhibitors for giving their time and expertise to support our students. Your contributions help make this event such a valuable experience. To our students: we hope the Careers Fair sparked new ideas, broadened your horizons, and brought you one step closer to achieving your goals.

Here’s to another successful year of creating opportunities and building futures at St John Plessington.
